Electrical machines are the driving force for the modern world in one or another way. The main objective of this course is to understand the design of electrical machines with respect to different applications. This course starts with the principle of the electromagnetics and design of electromagnets. Once the students are familiar with the electromagnetic principle, the realization of the electrical machines and winding designs will be discussed. Afterwards, the generic design of rotating machines with respect to sizing equations, Winding volume product, electric loading, magnetic loading and geometrical construction and density will be discussed. Further, the design of induction machines switched reluctance machines and thermal design procedure for electrical machines will be discussed in detail.
